A blueprint is the configuration behind a role's AI-generated screening questions — the tech skills to cover, any notes on what to focus on or avoid, and an optional job description. It doesn't include difficulty or how many questions to generate; you choose those separately, each time you actually generate questions (see Choosing a difficulty level).
From the blueprint screen, choose "How would you like to start?" — you have three options:
Paste a job description — paste the full JD (up to 20,000 characters) and click Extract suggestions. The AI reads it and suggests tech skills for you to review before saving.
Enter manually — build the blueprint yourself from scratch. This is the default, and the only mode where every field is ready to edit immediately.
Title only — infer a starting point — click Generate starting point and the AI proposes a blueprint based on just the role's title and seniority level. Useful when you don't have a JD handy.
Both AI-assisted modes take a little time to run — you'll see a live progress indicator while it works, and if a generation ever fails, nothing is saved and you can retry or switch to manual entry instead.
If you're in manual mode, there's also an Import from role button that pulls in the role's existing tech stack and copies its description into your focus notes — a fast way to seed the form instead of starting blank. If you've already entered something, it'll ask you to confirm before overwriting it.
Whichever mode you start from, review every field before clicking Save blueprint — AI suggestions are a starting point, not a final answer.
